Niobium rods are widely used in chemistry, electronics, aviation, and aerospace due to their high melting point, corrosion resistance, and good cold processing performance. Niobium rods are mainly used to process niobium standard parts, niobium screws, niobium machined parts, etc.
Niobium is stable in most acids, and its acid and corrosion resistance are better than zirconium, but not as good as tantalum. Niobium metal is extremely stable in air at room temperature and does not react with air. High-purity niobium metal has high flexibility, but it will harden with increasing impurity content. Niobium has a low capture cross section for thermal neutrons, so it is quite useful in the nuclear industry.
Niobium exhibits superconductor properties at low temperatures. At standard atmospheric pressure, its critical temperature is 9.2K, the highest among all single-element superconductors. Its magnetic penetration depth is also the highest among all elements. Niobium is one of the three single-element type II superconductors, the other two being vanadium and technetium. The purity of niobium metal greatly affects its superconducting properties.
