Method for preparing metal zirconium
A method for preparing zirconium sponge by reducing zirconium tetrachloride (ZrCl4) with metal magnesium. It mainly includes 3steps.
Decomposition of zircon sand and preparation of zirconium tetrachloride;
Separation of zirconium and hafnium;
Zirconium tetrachloride is refined and magnesium is thermally reduced to prepare a zirconium sponge.
4. The production process of metal zirconium rods:
Zirconium ore is selected to extract zirconium ore (concentrate) and then smelted into sponge zirconium. Zirconium and hafnium are separated while the zirconium sponge is smelted to produce a hafnium sponge. Then the sponge zirconium is melted and cast into zirconium ingots, and the zirconium ingots are processed into zirconium billets (zirconium rod billets, etc.), and finally subjected to pressure processing such as extrusion into zirconium bar.
