Test method for working life of titanium anode

Apr 25, 2022

Working life is an important parameter to measure the performance of titanium anode, which can be used for predicting its working life by referring to the test data of predecessors.

The RuIrTi coated electrode provided by Professor Bianchi from Italy has a rapid oxygen release life of 60 h at 100A/dm2, 0.5 mol/LH2SO4, and a chlorine release life of 2300 h during electrolysis in brine.

Ni Huaizhuo studied the intermediate layer of Ir. The rapid oxygen release life of RuIrTi coated electrode is 470 h in 100A/dm2 and 0.5 mol/LH2SO4. Referring to Bianchi data, the chlorine release life is 18017 h (2300*470/60_18017).

Chen Kangning provided test data. The rapid oxygen release life of ruthenium titanium coated titanium anode at 0.5mol/l is more than 800min, the working life is about 5 years under saturated sodium chloride solution of 15-20a / DM2.

Relevant personnel provided data. The strengthened life test was conducted in 1mol / lh2so4 at 1A / cm2. When the strengthened life was 4000min, the service life of coated titanium anode in chloralkali production could reach more than 8 years.

When studying the new coating formula, because the actual operating life of titanium anode is very long, often in a few months or even more than a few years, it is impossible to obtain a working life data after the anode is passivated. Scholars all over the world are using the internationally used enhanced life test, also known as the fast life test, that is, the enhanced operation in high current density and harsh electrolytic medium. Its passivation time is called the enhanced (fast) operation life, which can qualitatively judge the actual working life of the coated titanium anode.
