3. Nickel forms an attached oxide film that offers corrosion resistance at temperatures up to about 600 ° C. It has outstanding resistance to alkali and most acids but will be eroded by oxidizing acids (such as nitric acid) and salt solutions containing oxidizing substances.

It is applicable to molten samples of NaOH, Na2O2, Na2CO3, NaHCO3, and alkaline solvents containing KNO3. It cannot be used to melt samples of acidic solvents like KHSO4 or NaHS04, K2S2O7 or Na2S2O7, or fluxes that contain sulfur.
