Titanium Electrodes Help Improve Efficiency and Quality in the Electrochemical Industry
On July 27, 2026, a batch of customized 1.5mm-thick titanium anode plates from our company completed production testing and was officially loaded and shipped to the customer's site. This batch of products uses high-purity Gr1 titanium as the substrate, undergoing pretreatment processes such as sandblasting, roughening, and acid pickling activation, and can be coated with a high-performance precious metal oxide coating. The 1.5mm thickness specification combines excellent mechanical strength with lightweight advantages, and can be widely used in electrochemical fields such as copper foil electrolysis, electroplating, water treatment, and hydrometallurgy.
Titanium Anode Plates: Dimensionally Stable, Highly Efficient, and Corrosion-Resistant Core Electrochemical Material
Titanium anode plates, also known as titanium-based precious metal oxide-coated anodes (MMO) or DSA anodes, are dimensionally and shape-stable anodes made by coating titanium with precious metal oxides such as ruthenium, iridium, and tantalum on the surface and then sintering at high temperatures. Compared to traditional graphite and lead anodes, titanium anode plates offer the following core advantages:
Stable dimensions and stable cell voltage: The electrode spacing remains constant during electrolysis, ensuring stable cell voltage.
Significant energy saving and consumption reduction: Lower operating voltage reduces DC power consumption by 10%–20%; the oxygen evolution overpotential is approximately 0.5V lower than that of lead alloy insoluble anodes.
Long service life: In chlorine production using the diaphragm process, coated titanium anodes are resistant to chlorine and alkali corrosion, with a service life exceeding 6 years, compared to only 8 months for graphite anodes.
Pollution-free and reusable: Overcomes the dissolution problems of graphite and lead anodes, avoiding contamination of the electrolyte and cathode products; if the coating is damaged, the titanium substrate can be recoated and reused.
High current density: Taking chlor-alkali production using the diaphragm process as an example, the current density of graphite electrodes is 8 A/m². In comparison, titanium anodes can reach 17 A/m², doubling the output under the same conditions.
Based on the above characteristics, titanium anode plates are widely used in chlor-alkali industries, copper foil electrolysis, PCB electroplating, wastewater treatment, hydrometallurgy, cathodic protection, seawater desalination, and organic electrochemical synthesis.
Titanium Cathode Plates: Corrosion Resistant, Conductive, and Facilitating High-Purity Metal Extraction
Titanium cathode plates are also made of high-purity titanium and used as cathodes in electrolysis systems. Their main characteristics include:
Excellent Chemical Stability: Excellent corrosion resistance in various acidic and alkaline media; the corrosion rate in copper electrolyte is only 0.011 mm/year.
Good Electrical Conductivity: Stable conductivity and high electrolysis efficiency, meeting the requirements of most electrolyte systems.
Lightweight Advantage: Titanium's density is only about half that of copper, significantly reducing equipment load and labor intensity.
Excellent Peeling Performance: A continuous, dense, and uniform oxide film forms on the surface of the titanium cathode, making electrolytic deposits extremely easy to peel off, eliminating the need for soap or other release agents.
Titanium cathode plates are widely used in copper electrolytic refining, hydrometallurgical extraction of high-purity metals, electrolytic copper foil production, and water electrolysis for hydrogen production.
