Recently, a batch of Gr12 (TA10) titanium alloy rings from Baoji Fairy Titanium Industry completed rigorous quality inspection and were shipped to a foreign chemical equipment manufacturer. This batch of products conforms to the ASTM B381 standard, was manufactured using forging and precision machining processes, and will be used in key sealing components of chemical equipment.
Gr12 titanium alloy (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni) is a near-alpha type titanium alloy according to the American ASTM standard, with the corresponding domestic grade being TA10. This alloy is designed with the addition of 0.2%-0.4% molybdenum (Mo) and 0.6%-0.9% nickel (Ni), achieving a comprehensive performance upgrade based on pure titanium.
Outstanding Performance Advantages
Gr12 titanium alloy combines excellent corrosion resistance, moderate strength, and good machinability. In terms of corrosion resistance, this alloy exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in high-temperature chloride, weak reducing acid, and alkaline environments. Studies show that in a simulated hydrometallurgical environment of 200℃ high-temperature and high-pressure sulfuric acid, the corrosion rate of Gr12 can be as low as 0.025 mm/a, classifying it as mild corrosion; its seawater corrosion resistance is more than 10 times that of ordinary stainless steel.
In terms of mechanical properties, Gr12 in the annealed state has a tensile strength> 485 MPa, a yield strength> 345 MPa, and an elongation ≥20%. Its hardness is approximately HB 180-215, and its density is 4.54 g/cm³. The alloy's phase transformation point is approximately 890±15℃, and its long-term service temperature can reach 300℃. Compared to pure titanium Gr2, Gr12 has higher strength and superior high-temperature performance; compared to high-strength titanium alloys such as Gr5 (TC4), Gr12 possesses outstanding corrosion resistance, forming a differentiated advantage of "moderate strength and excellent corrosion resistance."
Wide Range of Applications
Based on the aforementioned performance characteristics, Gr12 titanium alloy rings play an irreplaceable role in several high-end industrial fields:
- Chemical Industry: Gr12 is an ideal material for key equipment such as sealing rings in chlor-alkali electrolytic cells, acid pump valve components, and flange rings in sulfuric acid concentrators. It exhibits stability in concentrated sulfuric acid and mixed acid systems below 80%, significantly extending equipment lifespan.
- Marine Engineering: This alloy is widely used in flange connections for seawater desalination plants, structural components for deep-sea oil and gas extraction platforms, and corrosion-resistant components for subsea pipelines and ships.
- Energy and Environmental Protection: It has mature applications in high-temperature brine pipelines in geothermal power plants, auxiliary equipment for nuclear power reactors, industrial wastewater treatment, and flue gas desulfurization and denitrification devices.
- Other Fields: Gr12 titanium rings are also used in aerospace, vacuum salt production, pharmaceuticals, electroplating, and electrolysis industries. As a ring-shaped titanium material, titanium rings are commonly used in seals, bearing housings, and other components requiring high precision and corrosion resistance.
Industry experts say that with the rapid development of strategic industries such as high-end chemical equipment, marine engineering, and nuclear power in my country, Gr12 titanium alloy, with its excellent corrosion resistance and reliable mechanical properties, is becoming an indispensable key material under increasingly extreme working conditions. The successful shipment of this Gr12 titanium ring also reflects our company's ability to stably supply high-quality titanium materials.
