Universal titanium alloy 6AL-4V ( ELD ) is similar to type 6AI-4V in the chemical analysis except for extra Low Interstitial gases ( ELI ) By controlling these contaminating gases the fracture toughness is greatly increased. Alloy 4956 is used to weld liquid hydrogen tankage and airframe parts requiring a high fracture toughness
