The cost of titanium alloys is an important factor in deciding whether to use them. Because titanium alloys are very expensive, how to use them most effectively is extremely important.
a developed method for efficient material utilization is near-net shape process, which achieves a minimum of material waste at each step in the production of titanium alloy parts.the following articles describe four processes that have been proven to produce near net shape parts.
Cast-on outwel
The use of cast-made titanium spare parts has increased continuously over the past 10 to 15 years, based on the reduction of casting costs and the improvement of casting quality and productivity of titanium alloys, which allows castings to be used in a wider range of components and more fields according to design intentions. The increase in the use of castings has led to the reduction of assemblies, where many small parts are assembled into parts, i.e. assembled parts. In some cases, castings may be used instead of parts machined by the original forging machine or by thick plates or ingots.Castings can replace parts made by other methods which make the following three situations possible.Firstly, net shape casting technology was improved. Secondly, due to the use of HIP, the internal porosity which may cause initial fracture is eliminated and the fatigue properties of the castings are improved. Third, the metal-to-mold reaction is reduced. Figure 1 shows two frame examples of investment casting for an aircraft engine. One of the castings replaces the assembly frame and mechanical fasteners to be welded. For each of these racks, more than 100 parts including fasteners are used when assemblies are used.
