Preparation of TA15 Titanium Alloy Pipe by Different Processes

Abstract: TA15 titanium alloy pipes were prepared by forging, extrusion, and cross-rolling processes, and the differences in properties, structure, appearance, size, and production cost were compared.

The results show that TA15 titanium alloy pipes with a tensile strength of 900~1130 MPa, elongation (>9%), section shrinkage (>25%), and impact power (>28 J) can be prepared by the three processes, and the surface quality and dimension accuracy of the pipes prepared by forging method is better than that by extrusion and cross-rolling method. the microstructure of the TA15 titanium alloy tube prepared by forging and extrusion is as follows: α+β Bimorphous structure, the microstructures of the TA15 titanium alloy tubes prepared by the cross rolling method are coarse weinite structure.

The TA15 titanium alloy pipe fabricated by forging and extrusion has good comprehensive properties such as strength, plasticity, and impact toughness, but it has a high processing cost and is suitable for parts with high-performance requirements. however, the plasticity of TA15 titanium alloy pipe prepared by a cross-rolling method is poor, but the processing cost is the lowest and it is suitable for low application requirements. the research provides theoretical guidance for selecting appropriate processes according to different requirements.
