Detailed Description and Selection Advice
360 and 361 – Different paths to the same pure molybdenum: Both are high-purity pure molybdenum, and their chemical composition and mechanical properties are essentially identical as per standard requirements. The fundamental difference lies in the production process, which leads to minor variations in microstructure and specific properties, such as gas impurity levels. For most applications, the two can be used interchangeably.
363 – Higher-performance TZM alloy: By adding trace amounts of titanium (Ti) and zirconium (Zr) to the molybdenum matrix, 363 molybdenum plate achieves solid-solution strengthening and carbide strengthening. Its high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and recrystallization temperature are significantly superior to those of pure molybdenum. Although its room-temperature ductility (elongation) is similar to that of pure molybdenum, its strength is notably higher.
Selection Advice: If you are looking for the most economical solution, pure molybdenum (360/361) is sufficient for conventional high-temperature applications. If your application environment requires higher structural strength in the high-temperature range of 1100°C to 1650°C, such as for high-temperature components in advanced vacuum furnaces, then the higher-performance 363 molybdenum alloy is the better choice.

Molybdenum sheet applications
What are the common application areas of molybdenum plates?
High-end industrial furnaces: Used as core components such as heating elements, heat shields, boats, and crucibles in vacuum furnaces and high-temperature sintering furnaces. TZM alloy (363) is the preferred material for high-end furnace bodies.
Aerospace: Used in rocket nozzles, missile components, and high-temperature structural components of engines.
Electronics and Semiconductors: Used as high-purity sputtering targets, semiconductor heat sinks, electron tube gates and anodes, etc. Extremely high purity is required.
Energy and Medical: Used in nuclear power equipment components, medical devices, and molten glass electrodes in the glass fiber industry, etc.
FAQ
Q: 1. What are the main physical properties and chemical composition of molybdenum plates?
A: Key physical properties: Melting point ~2620°C; Density ~10.2 g/cm³; Thermal conductivity ~140 W/(m·K); Resistivity ~5.34 μΩ·cm.
Chemical composition (core):
360/361: Molybdenum (Mo) ≥ 99.95%. 360 carbon content ≤0.03%; 361 carbon content ≤0.01%.
363: Molybdenum (Mo) balance (~99.3-99.5%); Titanium (Ti) 0.40-0.55%; Zirconium (Zr) 0.06-0.12%
Q: 2. What is the maximum operating temperature of molybdenum plates?
A: The operating environment for molybdenum and molybdenum alloys is crucial.
Protection is essential: All molybdenum materials are highly susceptible to oxidation at high temperatures (volatile oxides are rapidly formed above 400°C). Therefore, they must be used in a vacuum, hydrogen, or inert gas (such as argon) environment. Reference Temperature: Under the premise of ensuring a protective atmosphere, 360/361 pure molybdenum plates can operate continuously at around 1400°C. The high-temperature resistance of 363 molybdenum alloy can be increased to 1650°C or even higher.
New Material Selection: For operating conditions around 1800°C, molybdenum-lanthanum alloy (MLA), due to the doping of rare earth elements which increases the recrystallization temperature, is a more suitable choice than the materials mentioned above.
Q: 3. Molybdenum plates are brittle at room temperature; what precautions should be taken during processing?
A: Molybdenum exhibits low-temperature brittleness at room temperature and is prone to cracking; heating is essential during processing.
Preheating is crucial: For plastic processing such as shearing, bending, and stamping, preheating is mandatory. Empirical parameters are as follows:
0.5mm thickness: Can be directly sheared at room temperature.
0.5~1.2mm thickness: Preheat to 350°C.
6.3mm thickness: Requires preheating to above 600°C.
Note anomalous embrittlement: Higher heating temperatures are not always better. When the temperature exceeds 1000°C, molybdenum undergoes recrystallization and grain growth, which also leads to brittleness and processing difficulties.
Handling and Storage: When handling thin sheets or strips, whose edges are very sharp, always wear cut-resistant gloves. Avoid impacts from heavy objects during storage to prevent cracking.
Q: 4. What information should I provide you with if I want to get a quotation?
A: The required material dimension (Thickness*Width*Length, diameter*length; if possible, please kindly supply us with drawings).
They required more information, such as Surface Condition, Tolerance Request, Quantity, and other mechanical and technical details.
If it is possible, please also provide the application of products, and we will recommend the most suitable products with details for confirmation.
Q: 5. How do you guarantee the quality of the products?
A: Each step of production and finished products will be carried out by inspection by the QC department before being stored in the warehouse. NG goods are not allowed in the completed goods warehouse.
Q: 6. Can you guarantee prompt delivery?
A: Yes, when we get your inquiries, not only will we evaluate the most competitive price, but we can also get the most reasonable delivery time. So prompt delivery can be guaranteed.
Q: 7. What is the shipping cost?
A: The shipping cost is determined by the destination port, weight, packing size, and total CBM of the products. We will try our best to get the most reasonable shipping cost from the forwarders or express couriers to help you save more money.
Q: 8. What is the transportation way?
A: If the Gross Weight is ≤45kg, it's better to use express services such as TNT, DHL, FedEx, etc.
If the Gross Weight is between 45kg and 100kg, express or by air to your nearest airport can be considered.
If the Gross Weight is≥ 100kg, you can choose by Air or Sea to the nearest port.
